Tour Report from the Son Gual Mallorca Senior Open 2009 in Majorca
Wednesday, 13 May 2009
The Son Gual Mallorca Senior Open was the first of it's kind in Mallorca after the regular Tour's last event 2 years ago. A beautiful set-up at the exclusive Son Gual Golf course close to Palma set the best possible stage for the Senior Tour.

The wind was blowing quite a bit on the first two tournament days, Friday and Saturday that was, but softened on Sunday giving the players less of a headache due to the big and sloped greens.

The first practice day started a bit slow as players on the Senior Tour obviously do take life a bit easier as on the regular tour. Most of the players arrived on Tuesday night to start their first practice session on one of the two Pro Am's on Wednesday and Thursday.
During the course of the 3 practice days several players came and looked for input on Putters and Technique.
I even set-up the stuff on Saturday again and Andrew Murray and Per-Arne Brostedt used the Sam Puttlab in the practice mode to work on their putting.

Several of the argentinian players came by and tried the Yes! C-Groove Models. Alfonso Barrera took a Hanna uncut 37" with a Belly grip.
Luis Carbonetti took a Hanna uncut 37 inch with a normal grip on.
David Good took another Hanna, 35 ". It seems that this model is very popular due to its alignment help and the low MOI.
Runner-up Eamonn Darcy took a Belly Victoria 2. Eamonn played with a Yes! Carolyne with a 2thumb grip.
Gordon Brand Jr. stowed his Acushnet Brass Putter with Lead Tape in the depth of the Son Gual storage room after having tried our Donna for only 10 mins. Donna came in play after a bad first day on the difficult greens at Son Gual. He went on to finish T8th and cash in 8250 Euro. Great decision that was.

During the practice days I worked with a few players of which some had considerable results:

Bobby Lincoln and Angel Franco, both finished T5th, cashing in 12120 Euro each.
Aussie Mike Harwood and American Allan Tapie, finished 20th, 3500 Euro price money each
Bob Cameron, finished T25th, 2800 Euro price money
David Merryman, finished T29, 2300 Euro price money
David Good, T35th for 1800 Euro price money
Per-Arne Brostedt and Andrew Murray, finished T42 taking 1200 Euro each.
The American Doug Johnson was in his first European tour event after nearly dying in an accident with his car about a year ago. He finished T59th.
Mike Miller did not play due to back pain but was on the Sam Puttlab and Video as well.

Roger Chapman asked for a session on the Sam Puttlab as well, but decided then due to his good play not to spoil his thoughts any further.

Manuel Piñero asked for a Hanna long.
Tony Johnstone asked for a Hanna 33 inches and 3 degrees flat.

All in all a satisfying event and the American Doug Johnson was so surprised by the set-up that he offered me to make contact to the Head of the US PGA to present our Programme. We will gladly do that.

Best regards from sunny Mallorca

I have no doubt that if you apply Harolds putting method and combine it with a YES C-Groove Putter you will roll the ball better than you ever have before.
