After conducting Accredited Instructor Traning and
Private Clinic at Xili Golf & Country Club the
next stop on HSPSE’s Asia Trip was Palm Island Golf Resort in Hui
Zhou City, China. Hui Zhou City is in the Guangdong Province, just about 90
minutes from the Hong Kong border. The Head Teaching Professional at Palm Island is USPGA professional Shay Smart. A very active and well respected teaching professional in China Shay amongst other areas has had great success with a junior development programme which involves children form as young as 7 years. His programme takes the children through the a very rounded education process, not only the golf coaching side, but general education as well.

After attending the programme, Shay was in raptures about his experience: “Phil and Michel, I cannot thank you guys enough for exposing us to such a great system and experience. I did not expect to get so much out of this past week until I really sat down and thought about it today on my day off,........ I thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone and starting an ongoing relationship with the Harold Swash team. It was great to meet so many different golf coaches and listen to many new ideas that we can all benefit from. So thanks to all the coaches for sharing information so we can all grow as golf instructors”.
After having experienced the value of the Development Programme for Golf
Teaching Professionals, he quickly organized amateurs and two lady pros from
his own club (Palm Island) to join the
Private Clinics we had offered to a selected
number of golfers. All HSPSE clinics start with an in-depth analysis of each student. Video capture is taken of the students Ball Roll, their technique and SAM Putt Lab which measures 28 different parameters of the club head as it moves during the putting stroke. After going through the analysing process, the golfers were then educated in the 4 Fundamentals which are the corner stone of the Harold Swash teaching philosophy. Understanding these fundamentals is the key to understanding the rational for any change the player may be asked to do. The players were then shown their video footage and SAM data to understand the aspects they needed to improve. After which they then started to work on their proposed technical changes. In the 3 hour sessions, the golfer receives an assessment card with details of the changes they have been asked to work on. In this particular instance the golfers in Palm Island however were lucky to be able to continue their work with our newly accredited instructor, Shay Smart.
