Michel Monnard to report from the Asian Golf Development Summit in China

The Asian Golf Development Summit is underway and here is a news report from Michel Monnard, representing the Harold Swash Putting School of Excellence. Right from the beginning pace information absorption was high. Speakers where referring to:

China
  • Chinas growth in golf: in 2007 there are 2.5 Million Golfers either club member or regularly playing.
  • China is lifting its middle class up to 400 Million people by 2011, being between 30 - 40 years of age.

India
  • R&A is helping the Indian Golf Union with 1,5 Million GBP from the 10 Million which have been cashed in with hosting the British Open 2008. Dominic Wall has been appointed R&A official for the Asia/Pacific Area.
  • The Programme to develop Indian PGA Golf Professionals is under way since a few years and 180 Pros are currently working under the umbrella of the indian PGA. The R&A has given a Sam Puttlab to the Indian PGA.

Club Memberships
  • Different ways on how to improve your membership programmes and make sure your membership format and the service qualities are spot on.

Junior Golf
  • New ways on how to get the children to enjoy the game of golf and how to use it to pass on messages like honour, integrety and respect.

The session was guided by the Chairman making it fit to the upfront agreed format:

Each panellist to give a brief 5-minute introduction about
  • present panelist background
  • issues affecting junior golf
  • examples of any good programs or activities and
  • any other relevant points affecting junior golf in Asia

After each Panellist had made it's presentation with Powerpoint documents the discussion was opened where journalists, presidents of national golf federations and others could start with their questions which where then discussed by the panel.

Michel Monnards presentation was about the following topics:
  • Role of Golf Teaching Professionals & National Federations

  • Examples of Programmes: HSPSE as instrument of continuous development

  • En-route to a better future for Chinese kids (Accredited Instructor Shay Smart Golf School, Guangdong, China)
