European PGA Tour Coach Phil Kenyon to report the latest successes of his pupils on the European and US PGA Tour. A wide range of Top Tens show that Kenyons teaching is definately "Tour Proven".
As the tour moves back to mainland Europe for the majority of the rest of season its an appropriate time to reflect on the stand out performances of the players who work with Director of Instruction Phil Kenyon. It’s a European Tour in name but it’s a Global Tour in reality which means it has seen events in Africa, Asia and the Middle East so far this season. Our pupils got off to a good start to the season with Edoardo Molinari finishing 4th in the South African Open at Paarl Valley. This performance moved Edoardo high enough up the world rankings to secure a spot in the Masters. Better still was the performance of Richie Ramsey who regularly consults Phil Kenyon, in achieving a maiden victory in only his 2nd year on tour. Continuing in South Africa Darren Clarke finished strongly at the Royal Johannesburg Golf Club in January to take 2nd place in the Jo’Burg Open. The tour then moved on to the Middle-East and Edoardo Molinari’s fine play continued with a top 5 finish while the ‘Desert’ saw a return to form of Henrik Stenson with a top 10 finish. India was the next destination where Darren Clarke, Oliver Fisher and Richard Finch all figured in the top 10. Richard holed a demanding birdie put on the last hole to claim 2nd place outright. Malaga and the Andalucian Open was the next highlight for our players, where again, Richard Finch finished strongly to take 2nd place, while Rob Coles in his comeback year on tour showed his class with a 4th place finish that included a 3rd round 63. Other notable finishes include Joost Luiten with a top 10 finish, his best performance of the year. The same week as the Andalucian Open Edoardo Molinari was impressing on the US Tour at Bay Hill. A monster 60 foot putt in 71st hole secured 2nd place behind Ernie Els and Edoardo’s best finish on the US PGA Tour. Phil Kenyon himself was at hand on the final day at Bay Hill to see events unfold on his way to Lake Nona to work with Henrik Stenson prior to the season first major, at Augusta. Unfortunately none of the boys figured at Augusta however over in Europe Oliver Fisher took the mantle with a fine 2nd place in Madeira, while Michael Hoey a new addition to Harold Swash stable backed Oliver up with a 6th place. As the tour then moved back out to Asia for the Volvo China Open and Ballantines Championship in Korea, Oliver continued his excellent form with a 7th place and 4th place respectively, performances that will re-secure his card after loosing it last year. The putting stats after the Spanish Open also make interesting reading with David Horsey a long standing pupil of Phil Kenyon the sitting in fourth place with an average of 27.9 putts per round. In terms of the biggest movers Darren Clarke has improved his total putts per round average from 30 putts per round (112th place) in 2009 to 28.8 putts per round so far this season (30th place). While his putts per green in regulation stats are also up 37 places, from 1.78 (57th) to 1.73 (20th). A substantial improvement. With plenty of golf left over the rest of the season we wish our guys the best of luck on the greens ……roll em pure!
