European PGA Tour Putting Insider from the Spanish Open

The European Tour took itself back to Europe this week for the Spanish Open at PGA Cataluña. The first of a run of events on the continent and UK.

A fantastic course and facilities for the guys and hopefully some nice weather after the strong winds and cold temperatures last week in Korea.

Tuesday was a very busy day with lots of interest in the new models from Yes Golf. The Tracy 3 and Lizzie models which have interchangeable hosels to allow the players to choose the configuration that’s suits them are proving to be popular. While also the new Dawn had many admirers including Brandan Grace, who is a young South African players to watch out for and David Horsey a HSPSE pupil. Luis Claverie also picked up a Lizzie SWS with a 150g weight.

In each event there are always a few top amateurs from the host countries federation that are invited into the field to get taste of professional competition. This week the Spanish Federation has 5 of their top amateurs playing. All of the guys we have worked with, when conducting the national squad training, each winter in Valencia.

In particular it was good to catch up and spend some time with Pedro Erice and Sergi Nogue. Pedro has had a particularly good start to the Spanish national domestic season with 2 wins already, which he put down to some improved putting generated through the our winter training.

On Tuesday I also spent some time with pupil Oliver Fisher, who after a few weeks break, when the tour went back to Asia, was looking forward to the run in Europe and finding some form. On Wednesday I met with Brandan Grace. Brandan was introduced to me by his Sport Psychologist Lee Crumbleholme, who is a friend of mind. We spent a little time just checking his set up and chatting about his thoughts on putting, agreeing to Profile his stroke on SAM puttlab next week when in Italy.

That’s all from this week.  The next 5 weeks will see me at each of the tour events, so a busy stretch coming up.

"The Harold Swash Putting School of Excellence's coaching philosophy has helped me no-end with my putting. Since adopting a wider stance and more stable base, I have become a much improved putter.
If you get a chance to work with them, I would highly recomend it."

David Howell, European Tour Professional and Ryder Cup Player
